The honours list

There has been quite a bit of discontent recently over the honours listings and how the awards are given out.....

So how would you replace them, with what and how would they be awarded??

The whole honours system seems completely pointless to me. Sportsmen and women should be satisfied with the other rewards that they get, such as mega gross pay, and winners medals etc. Why should someone receive an award for doing their job well? When I was a rep, I helped to keep over three hundred people in Wales and almost a thousand in the German factory employed, with the orders I brought into the company, surely this would entitle me to the same award as a grossly overpaid footballer or am I missing a point? The whole system needs scrapping altogether.

......  The whole system needs scrapping altogether.

I think it should at the very least be given a good sort out - but it has probably grown so rife with tainted bits that it probably should be scrapped.

...... never could see the point in sportsfolk/entertainers and suchlike being given honours.

Like you andsome, I also have achieved things - and overcome hurdles - but then most of us have.

I mostly found that life (or someone) tends to give you a slap in the face rather than a pat on the back as a reward :whistling:

The only reward I got from my boss after eighteen years of service was a nervous breakdown, and THATS THE TRUTH

Surely, 'honours' are for peeps that make a valuable contribution to the country, like that conceited, plagiaristic Brit woofter geezer, Sir Elton Jon :D

I reckon we owe a belated honour to France then. They gave us a large chunk of our current language, metricity, some fine wines and cuisine to die for.

:D ;)

What contribution has he made to the country? People who have made contributions are those who have stuck at mundane every day boring jobs with little reward, not grossly overpaid wailers. People who make the biggest contribution to the country in my opinion are those who unfortunately, usually through no fault of their own do not have any special talents which would gain them obscene incomes, I'm talking about people like sewage workers, dust bin men, road sweepers etc. They all do damned good valuable work for little reward, work that the rest of us turn our noses up at.
