[Resolved]-Fax programme

Hi,

I'm looking for a reliable fax programme, doesn't need to do anything but send and recieve faxes. Would prefer it to be freeware (wouldn't everyone?)

Anyone got any recommendations?

Which operating system?

Windows has an built in fax program but it isn't always turned on/installed by default. Have a look in Help and support in WXP:

Fax provides you with complete fax facilities from your computer. You can configure fax settings, send and receive faxes, track and monitor fax activity, and access archived faxes. Using Fax, you can choose to send and receive faxes with a local fax device attached to your computer, or with a remote fax device connected to fax resources located on a network.

Fax is not installed by default during Windows Setup.

To install the Fax component

Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Fax Services check box, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

Notes

To open Fax after installation, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.

For more information on using Fax, click Help in Fax Console.

Didnt Norton system works have one on? ive got NSW 2004 but havnt installed it yet

I'm no Norton expert by any means but I find it odd that a collection of security software would have a fax program included.

I can't see fax listed as one of the utilities on the NSW 2004 website.

its not really security software its to find and fix problems with windows etc, its not in 2004 but im sure it was in earlier versions. Here what i was talking about anyhow

I've looked at the fax programme within windows, the problem is I don't have a fax printer or anything connected to my network.

When I first got the PC I had a fax programme already installed on it, however I deleted it when I upgraded to XP Home, I'm looking for a programme whereby I can scan documents and fax them or use word and fax it?

ANy ideas?

i use word and then fax all the time using windows inbuilt fax thingy.the fax utility simply installs a printer called FAX and you just print to that particular printer.

As PM Dawn says, the Fax printer in Windows is not a physical printer. Go through the procedure of preparing and sending a Fax in Windows and it should be self explanatory.
