trackrat Posted February 22, 2004 Report Share Posted February 22, 2004 I have just built a shuttle and as I do not have a spare XP OS I put 98SE on it, whan I tried to install Mandrake 9.2 it came up with save all your data and click OK to reboot, but when I clicked OK nothing happened so I pressed the reset button to make it reboot and still nothing. I tried it again and exactly the same happened is 98SE incompatable with Mandrake 9.2My Shuttle contains XP 2200 processor, 80gb Seagate HD, 2x256 2100 Crucial ram, Leadtek FX5700 128meg graphics, Samsung DVD/CDRW and a floppy drive. 1zhelp Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

trackrat Posted February 25, 2004 Author Report Share Posted February 25, 2004 It is a FN45 shuttle mobo and I did the linux install through Mandrake.This has become great fun, I eventually got it to install and on the third disc it threw a wobbly and I had to press the reset button and when it rebooted I could not access 98se or mandrake, so I fdisked the hard drive with a 98 b00t disc and it would not let me delete the logical drives off the extended partition. So in the end I downloaded the third iso image and reburnt it and did the instillation again and success but I now cannot partition it to put 98se back on, can anyone help :unsure: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Damo Posted February 25, 2004 Report Share Posted February 25, 2004 according to mandrakelinux.com there are some shuttle motherboards that don't work with Linux, but I can't see the model you've got.You also need to put Windows on your HDD before you put Linux on, do a reformat, then fdisk it and partition it, then install windows then linux on the other partition. Damo Posted February 25, 2004 Report Share Posted February 25, 2004 Boot up to a command prompt and type FORMAT C (Ithink...it's been so long!) Then once formatted, install windows as usual, once windows is installed FDISK and Create a partition (10gb for eg) Once thats done put the Linux cd in, on the install process it will ask which drive/patition you would like to install linux on, obviously select your new partion, then it should all install ok!Obviously back up all your data on your HDD first.If i've missed anything i'm sure powerless will let me know!!! :PcheerzDamo Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
