INSTALL.LOG.FILE.

Recommended Posts

Hi waldoc, sorry I didn't post last night, but I work late on tuesdays / thursdays, and I didn't get in till nearly midnight :( .

Anyway, back to your problem. I suspect that simply creating a shortcut to the actual executable for the software will work, however I do not know if this will cause it to loose some functionality. This software is pretty damn strange, I cannot remember ever seeing another program which launches itself using the uninstaller program and a switch to its install log

Next, I have still been playing around with my install (I cannot find Version 4 to try anywhere), and I would like you to try something for me. Can you make a copy of the Install.log file (the one with the text in) and paste it into a new directory in your C drive called Test (you will need to make the directory). Next can you rename the original install.log file to install.old (please make sure you have the "hide known file types" option turned OFF for windows explorer, otherwise you will end up with a file called install.old.log which will not help!). Now double click on the unwise.exe file, and tell me what happens. I am hoping that it will throw up a box asking for the location of the install.log file, if it does please point it to where you copied the file, and see what happens.

Mr. M.

Hi Mr M, Thanks for your continued patience. I have sent an e-mail of to Embla and I will give them a couple of days to respond. In the meantime I noticed the following patch on their site which I have downloaded.

Problems with the Family History Monthly CD?

Whilst we do our best to ensure a trouble - free installation, we have discovered that you may have problems installing Embla Family Treasures version 4 if you have certain other software installed on your computer.

Whilst other software companies often wipe their hands of such problems, we try and solve them where possible. Since making the software for the Family History Monthly CD, we have discovered that there are problems installing the software when Generations and some Adobe produced are already on your PC.

If you experience an error Run-time error 339 - component ''LTOCX10N.OCX'' or one if its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid., we have produced a patch that can complete the installation properly without adversely affecting your other software. The patch is rather large, at around 6MB, so we would only recommend the download if you have a broadband connection. If you would like to download the patch, click here

Alternatively, we can send out a CD with the patch on. To obtain this patch, please send an email to [email protected] remembering to include your name and full postal address. It would also be helpful for us if you could include a contact telephone number.

Download patch

I cannot open this either unless I go into the directory. Therefore if I receive no responce by friday I will have a stab at your suggestion. I agree that making a shortcut would be possible but I am not keen on having programs on my system which I can't uninstall.

Thanks again :) Wal

Hi Mr M

Apologies for the delayed response. I have tried to sort this problem but without success so far. The program support site do not answer emails or phone calls.

However for the record I have recently discovered a "Google" section covering the same error message ie. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&...nG=Search&meta= and which includes some 298 posting requesting a solution to "program could not open Install Log File"

Needless to say no one has solved it except by deleting and going into the registry

which I do not fancy doing at the moment.

So I will let the programs stay on my system until I get more confidence or else perhaps reinstall XP sometime in the future.

Regards Wal B)
