Keyboard & mouse

I have two computers networked using a KVM switch to use one monitor, keyboard & mouse between them.

Both computers are running XP Hime.

My main computer keeps locking up ie I cannot use the keyboard or mouse and have to press the reset button.

I was origonally using a Logitec easy itnernet navigator keyboard and Logitec optical mouse, the mouse I have changed for a Microsoft optical mouse.

In device manager under Keyboard it says Easy internet keyboard and under mouse it says Microsoft PS/" mouse.

On the other computer under keyboard it says Standard 101/102 - key or Microsoft PS/2 keyboard and under mouse it says PS/2 compatible mouse.

I have no trouble with the second computer locking up.

Could it be that their is a problem with the PS/2 controller on the mobo which is an AS Rock K7S8X.

I had this problem about 6 months ago but it seemed to cure itself and I only had this computer then ( no KVM switch ).

Any advice on how I can test the PS/2 controller would be greatly appreciated, as I am at a loss where to go from here.

trackrat, I cannot help with a method to test the controller, but I have managed to find the following link to Altium, which seems to have a pretty good explanation of how it all works.

My other suggestion, would be for you to remove Easy Internet Keyboard, and set it back to the usual 101/102 key setup.

Mr M, I have tried to set it to usual 101/102 set up and when I look in Device manager it shows-- PC/AT enhanced PS/2 keyboard ( 101/102-key ) and I do not know why it isn`t showing the same as the other computer . What is a PC/AT ?.

I always thought that PC/AT was the form factor for the motherboard, don't know how this would relate to the keyboard description though.

Try going into the properties for the keyboard and changing the driver. If it comes back and says it already has the best driver installed, there should be an option to install an alternate one, use that and pick the 101/102 keyboard.

I am not sure if this will solve your problem, but it has to be worth a try.

One other thing to possibly have a look at, is the power saving options for the pc. Is it possible that your pc is going to sleep and simply not waking up properly?

Have been into the driver options and their is no 101/102 driver only logitech drivers and all the power options are set to never.

Even stranger on the other computer their are only two drivers for the keyboard and they are the PC/AT driver and the one I cannot find on the main computer the standard 101/102 driver.

Do you know of a way I can transfer this driver?.

AT keyboards are the older style of connection prior to PS2. They were also known as DIN5

I am having similar problems with keyboard and mouse. Neither work on my xp pro box. Fortunatley, I can connect to the PC through remote desktop where everthing works fine. It all started with a problem with software.log and Daemon tools. Trying to correct problems, I created a larger problem. Under device manager, not keyboard or mouse is listed. I tried installing USB and PS2 keyboards and now have them listed in the device managers, however, xp says the devices cannot be started. Any suggestions? I am contemplating an XP repair install.
