Log on as adminastrator

Recommended Posts

Apon a clean install of XP...for the last few days i have been logging on as adminastrator...but today i logged on as ANDY but all my files were not there...so now i have reason to believe that Andy and Adminastrator are different accounts...so i enabled the log on screen rather than the command prompt thingie and i was no longer able to log on as admin...is there any way round this or will i have to move all my files and become a user rather than an admin?

OK, If you have been logging on as administrator, and now today as Andy, then they will be two seperate accounts. When you did the install, did you create the "Andy" account?

What actually happens when you try to log on as administrator?

Also, when logged on as Andy, if you go into windows explorer, you should be able to see a directory called "documents and settings", if you open that, you will see a directory for all the accounts on the machine. If Andy has the correct rights, he will be able to see the files in the administrator directory, which is where your files will be.

Mr. M.

Sort of. THE Admin, is the built in default administrator for the operating system. It is created when you run the install. AN Admin, would be somebody who has been created afterwards and added to the administrator group.

Mr. M.

Do they have the same "rights" to files programes ect

Pretty much, although it is possible to allow THE admin rights to something and block the rest of the Admin "group". But you would have to do that deliberately.

Mr. M.

Well thanks MR M that seem to have cleared stuff up for me.....

P.s : this isnt work a new topic: can any type of cable ties be used to tie up wires inside computers or do they have to be sepcial ones that dont melt or somthing?
