andsome Posted April 30, 2004 Report Share Posted April 30, 2004 Phone the telephone directories people and ask them to have your number available from Directory Enquiries, BUT NOT TO BE LISTED IN THE BOOK. If you do this while changing your number, you need never be bothered again. We found that the TPS was effective for a couple of years but then we started to get the problem again. andsome Posted April 30, 2004 Report Share Posted April 30, 2004 The problem with ex directory is that friends and relative who may have lost your number will not be able to phone you. With my solution they can still contact directory enquiries armed with your name and address and get your number, but spam phoners will not have your number on their data base. Although I don't get junk phone calls on my land line since changing my number and coming out of the phone book, I do get junk text messages and also phone calls on my mobile. I have had calls from Indians offering me free mobiles and digital cameras, in exchange for my bank details, so that they can set up a direct debit for the phone rental. I have heard that if you answer some of the text messages saying that you have missed a call, when you phone the number that you are supposed to have missed, it is a premium rate number costing as much as £50 per minute.
