-pops- Posted May 13, 2004 Report Share Posted May 13, 2004 Perhaps a reason you have had little response is because others are more concerned with functionality rather than frippery.I'm afraid I fail to see the point of decorating a computer to make it resemble a high tech version of Blackpool in the autumn.As far as I'm concerned a fan is entirely for moving air. There is no need for it to light up, glow in the dark or do anything else but move air. It is a better fan if it does its job quietly but this has nothing to do with any of the attributes you are looking at.Luddite? -pops- Posted May 13, 2004 Report Share Posted May 13, 2004 My latest build is in an Antec Sonata case. This has an Antec 120mm fan pre-installed. It runs very quiet. I installed a YS Tech 120mm fan as an auxiliary. This again is very quiet.The arrangement is that the fan speed is controlled via the M/B and PSU so the rotational speed of each fan is variable and quite low. Together with a Zalman heatsink, this gives an almost silent computer.The YS Tech fan was from Overclockers http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...YS_Tech_60.html who also sell frivolous coloured and illuminated fans by Akasa. It is a BIG beast (somebody in my office has one) and requires fixing through the motherboard. You need to ensure that there are no capacitors in the way. Another Zalman model shown as http://www.quietpc.ca/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DI...unt=9&Pcount=14 in your contact is much lighter and will go on to most M/Bs as it fits in a conventional manner. The fan is separate and mounts on the screws that hold PCI cards (you can still use the PCI function). It it suitable for Athlon XP3000 at least (I am using one like this in my new build). The Pentuim list from Zalman, is a list of boards which it will NOT fit, and your board is not on the list.As pops says, this is a very heavy heatsink, and does really need the additional backplate as well.
