Good?

Perhaps a reason you have had little response is because others are more concerned with functionality rather than frippery.

I'm afraid I fail to see the point of decorating a computer to make it resemble a high tech version of Blackpool in the autumn.

As far as I'm concerned a fan is entirely for moving air. There is no need for it to light up, glow in the dark or do anything else but move air. It is a better fan if it does its job quietly but this has nothing to do with any of the attributes you are looking at.

Luddite? May be :)

I don't want lights...my case is like 3-2 MM of solid metal...lights are not really a worry to me...if it has the great but if it doesn't it don't matter....

maybe i should be more pacific

can anyone recommend a reliable 120mm case fan (low noise) with or without lights?

My latest build is in an Antec Sonata case. This has an Antec 120mm fan pre-installed. It runs very quiet. I installed a YS Tech 120mm fan as an auxiliary. This again is very quiet.

The arrangement is that the fan speed is controlled via the M/B and PSU so the rotational speed of each fan is variable and quite low. Together with a Zalman heatsink, this gives an almost silent computer.

The YS Tech fan was from Overclockers http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...YS_Tech_60.html who also sell frivolous coloured and illuminated fans by Akasa.

I replied once but it was never posted

Andy - I don't know why you're getting worked up with me.

I posted a question asking if anybody knew where I could buy neon strips - that's all. Chill out.

Just a quick point Andy, make sure that the Zalman heatsink you have listed above will fit your motherboard. It is a BIG beast (somebody in my office has one) and requires fixing through the motherboard. You need to ensure that there are no capacitors in the way. Also, the mobo will need to come out to fit this heatsink.

Here is a link to Zalman for compatability http://www.zalman.co.kr/product/cooler/700...d_list_eng.html

I should point out as well, that this heatsink comes in 3 types. The link you provided above is for the all copper one (deffo the best one to get), but this is actually £37.00 on o/clockers. The cheaper models have less copper and more aluminium.

I found it in the special offers section......

OK Andy, I've just seen it, it seems to be an older version of the current model. I do not know what the difference would be between the two, but probably not much. If it fits your board, then it is a good heatsink.

Sorry, the link I gave you was for AMD based boards, here is the link for Pentiums http://www.zalman.co.kr/product/cooler/700...d_list_eng.html

That heatsink is VERY heavy and I have known it to crack a motherboard. Another Zalman model shown as http://www.quietpc.ca/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DI...unt=9&Pcount=14 in your contact is much lighter and will go on to most M/Bs as it fits in a conventional manner. The fan is separate and mounts on the screws that hold PCI cards (you can still use the PCI function). It it suitable for Athlon XP3000 at least (I am using one like this in my new build).

Are you sure it doesn't fit. The Pentuim list from Zalman, is a list of boards which it will NOT fit, and your board is not on the list.

As pops says, this is a very heavy heatsink, and does really need the additional backplate as well. It is not to be advised if you are going to be moving the pc a lot (ie visits to lan parties :P )
