k_grdn1
Hi Guys Just started an updrade this morning, P4P800 delux, P4 3.2, Ge-force Fx, 2*512 ddr2700. All went well apart from I'm getting no post, no beeps! and I can't power down the system. Disconnected all devices just to see if it was trying to boot from another device other than the BIOS, no luck, changed the graphics card, cleared the cmos. I think the problem is the power supply, it's only 300 watts, another 500watts is on the way. Also this could be another factor http://www.asus.it/support/faq/qanda.aspx?KB_ID=84481After considering these issues, do they relate to the system not being able to power down or restart? Also I have tried all possible panel connector configurations, reset plug etc.. Thanks K_g
Agent Smith
Hello k_grdn1 and welcome to the Forum. I have to say I am concerned that you get absolutely no post warnings at all. I have just checked the Asus site, and the board should have verbal warning messages for post errors. I have to assume that you either have a duff board, or that you are either not suppling enough, or the correct power to the board. However, if you have removed all the devices I would have expected 300 watts to at least get the board to post.I think you need to contact your vendor about this board and seek their advice.Regards. Mr. Mouse.
k_grdn1
Thanks Mr.MouseI was thinking along the same lines, the only option I got at present is what asus FAQ's suggest, I should have a new power supply within the next 30 mins with a 12v 4 pin connector which is required, going on the basis that, no boot includes no post.K_g
Agent Smith
If the new PSU is coming that quickly, then go ahead and check it. I do hope it is all that is causing the problem. Please let us know how you get on.Mr. M.
-pops-
Assuming you have a hard drive, an optical drive and a floppy wired in, you could try getting something by booting up with these disconnected.I would be a bit concerned that a 300W PSU couldn't supply the current just to get you going that far. Guest ellas
no post, no beeps is more often than not a dodgy mobo, with the bare minimal in a 300 watt psu should boot, its only when you have everything connected when you see problems with a too small psu. k_grdn1
Hi Guys Sorry for the delayed responce, exam week!Anyway sorted the machine out, the board required an extra 12v 4 pin power plug to supply sufficient power to the P4. The original power supply did not have one of these plugs, without dedicated power to the psu you won't even reach the post with this board. Say's nothing in the manual about this! This was my first pentium build, I'm an Athlon man! do all p4's require additional power? Thanks again for all the helpk_g
-pops-
Glad you got fixed up. I'm an AMD man as well and I always wonder that those extra plugs are on the wires from the PSU. I'm surprised that a vital one was missing like that.
