Starts on the History Channel at 9pm UK time - or 10pm on History+1. Should be interesting if they get their facts right and have not been nobbled!

With that amount of data they couldn't possibly monitor and process everything untoward and even if they could they haven't got anything like the manpower required to act on even a fraction of it. Moral; if you don't want your privacy invaded, be a criminal. :)

Watched a bit of it. Mostly rehashed stuff out of date since 9/11.

Touched on 9/11 towards the end but overall an uninspiring programme.

What I found interesting is that the US actively uses the information it gleans for industrial espionage. It's actually part of its remit to do so.

They quoted two big deals where they found out that officials ( one from S America and the other was the Middle East - wasn't really paying that much attention. Northy will put me right.) were being bribed by European firms so the US government passed the info onto their own companies who revealed the shenagigans and went on to win the contracts for themselves

Well, they didn't come up with anything that is not in the public domain and kind of glossed over the fact that private landline calls and cellphone calls are monitored for suspicious words or phrases. Actually Google will give more info on ECHELON than this programme did.
