Jazzy
God bless them all. I missed the TV coverage yesterday but I gather it was very special. A lot of planes were flying over where I live, I guess it had something to do with that.
andsome
Very few of us would be alive today were it not for those courageous people.
djohn
Your spot on Rebel. Your post is an excellent one and thank you for making it. I think it should have received more replies than it has even though I'm guilty of not posting sooner. We [My wife and myself] spent the whole weekend watching the commemoration on SKY News, they did an excellent cover of the whole event. It brought back many memories for us. Both of us served in the forces during the 60's-70's [Thats where we first met] and our son is currently serving as a Paratrooper. We really do owe these brave men everything we now have. Freedom! I truly hope we will remember them forever, those that gave their lives and those that are now in their twilight years. May they all find the peace and serenity within themselves that they fought so hard to give to us. :(

prctr
I think I'm a little quieter about honouring our WWII veterans; my father was in a bombing group and my uncle went ashore at Omaha Beach, as a medic. Seeing what a disaster his life was as a direct result, and knowing what an impact the experiences had on my father - I guess I just take for granted the sacrifices that were made, by ALL the Allied troops & resistance groups. Soldiering is not a popular occupation, especially with the media these days, but the brave conduct of thousands and thousands of soldiers in WWII IS taken for granted by SOME in the U.S., but in a good way: we expect excellence from our troops, and they expect it from each other. (Not to mention, of course, the invariable "bad apples" that always make the press).I just hope that ALL who are in harms way may soon find safe haven from the storm.
