andsome
I have always been a great fan of Symantec and Norton products. However having hit a problem last week I have now changed my mind with a vengeance. I have posted the following thread on The Pitstop, and intend posting it to other forums. Any ideas? THREAD AS POSTEDI sent an e-mail from the Symantec website. When downloading updates, there had been an update for Norton Internet security program available, I downloaded it but received a message that it would NOT install because I needed to install an update first for Symantec redirector. Symantec advised me to uninstall Norton System Works 2003 and any other Norton programs. I also had to delete temporary files and edit the registry, I did as requested, and also uninstalled Personal Firewall 2003. I installed the programs again using the EXACT sequence as instructed, followed by downloading updates in the order suggested, but still the problem persisted. I sent a second e-mail to Symantec, and was instructed to uninstall and reinstall as before. I did this several times, but always got the same result. I sent another e-mail, followed by several more, but to date Symantec are no longer answering my e-mails.You can all draw your own conclusions, as to whether it is worth purchasing programs from a company that gives up trying to help with a serious problem after two attempts.I would now like to write a letter of complaint to a senior executive of Symantec, enclosing printed copies of my e-mails. As Symantec is in the USA, can someone please advise me as to the full postal address of the person concerned, as this is not shown on the website. I was considering addressing my letter to,John G. Schwarz, President and Chief Operating Officer
-pops-
I gave up with Norton products in 1996 after my system was wrecked by them. When Norton became (or was taken over by) Symantec, I gave them a wide berth as well.I was a fan of Drive Image. This has now been taken over by Symantec. I had a problem the other day with DI and it kept telling me that some debugging was required and to carry out a series of actions to cure the problem. It didn't cure it and I ended up in a loop. I went to the Symantec website to look at their help files - nothing there. I tried to email them with my problem - I became caught up in another loop that kept taking me to their FAQ pages. There was no way I could find of getting any help without using the paid for help line - well, up yours, Symantec. I am now the happy owner of Acronis True Image. Scarecrow Man
Norton was my number one pick, but now I have switched to AVG, just because it's free, but I also like PC-illin (trend micro). very low system impact, and very high test results
andsome
At long last I have received a reply from Symantec. They have put a specialist on the case. I have looked at his suggestions, and have sent a few questions before carrying them out. It will be interesting to see if the programs are corrected after carrying out this work.
