Nice one, boris. I just ran it. No surprises because I already run Startup Monitor which does a very efficient job.

I didn't allow Startup Inspector permanent passage through my firewall. I think that the fewer progs. allowed permanent passage the better.

I'll bet peeps that don't use Startup Monitor will get a few shocks.

Been using it from Beta 2.01 - no problems - gets its data from Pacs Portal.

Just downloaded the new version. Been using the old one since I first commented on it (above).

Far easier than fiddling about in MSConfig and suchlike.

Highly recommended especially if you're someone who does a lot of moving around/deleting things.

NOTE:

If when trying to run this new version, you get a message

"This application has failed to start because borlndmm.dll was not found. Re-Installing the application may fix this problem"

you will need Borland Runtime Files from

The runtime files can be unzipped into your windows system directory or they can be placed in the same directory as the program. (~ 300Kb)

HOW TO USE

1. Start the program from your Desktop or Start Menu>Programs>Windows Startup Inspector

2. Once the program has started it loads all programs in your windows startup list automatically.

3. Press Consult button. This feature requires an Internet connection,

make sure you have Internet access and allow this program to pass your firewall. Note: this program is not spyware, it only retrieves info - it does not send any info.

4. Once Consultation process has completed you notice comments appear beside each program, and at the bottom of the screen it shows clearer information on each clicked program (where it is known).

5. Go through each program, check if it is required by its rating.

Rating 1    "!" - definitely not welcome, remove it - is spyware, adware or even virus.

Rating 2    "?" - unidentified programs.

Rating 3    TRIANGLE/STAR thing - Not Required - programs which provide certain features, but if you don't or rarely use them, why not remove them and you can always start them manually.

Rating 4    TICK - the user has already chosen to run these programs.

Rating 5    STAR - usually system programs, which you should leave alone.

6. To remove a program from startup list, just uncheck it by clicking in the square box in front of each program.

7. Now finish by pressing the Apply button.

8. Exit Windows Startup Inspector and Restart windows.
