cerio
HiI reformatted my PC and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger. Now it just opens and immediately closes. I uninstalled and reinstalled, no improvement. I reformatted my PC again, assuming something was amiss there, reinstalled Yahoo, it still crashes and closes as soon as I open it.It just comes up with 'Yahoo has encountered an error and has to close' It worked fine before the reformat. I have loads of friends I chat ot on Yahoo and now no access to them.Any ideas?C
Scarecrow Man
Download the newest version, and make sure you uninstall any previous versions.you can also try a 3rd party program like trillian. Not sure of web site, just google it.
cerio
I did try installing the latest version too. I removed the 5.6 version I had in and downloaded the latest but that just closed everytime I opened it too. It's not even signing in that crashes it, it crashes before that.I reformatted yet again (Win XP Pro) (as this was the only way I knew to be sure that the machine was clean) in case there was some residue of the old 5.6 version, which had worked with no problem before I first reformatted a few days ago. After reformatting again, installed the newest version, same problem right from the start. It worked once then started the crashing thing again. It does now, however, seem to be working again but I don't trust it. I'll get back to the forumthanksC

-pops-
Have you enquired of Yahoo about this? They may be familiar with the problem and offer a cure.
Clam
Hi,Further to what Rebel said, If I have the fire wall on Zone Alarm set at 'High' it will allow text messaging in MSN Messenger but as soon as I start the web cam it folds. If you have ZA try reducing the fire wall the medium.
Scarecrow Man
check M$ KB for this error as well. Could be a winsock.dll problem, or other win files.
