Have had several problems with new Dell PCs not being able to join the domain. Often coming back saying the domain controller (NT domain with PDC and 2 BDCs) is not available. It does eventually work but not without lots of fighting! Tried google/technet search without any joy. Any other ideas?? (for those who can/care same question posted at PCA!) Ensure it is turned off!!One other possible issue, might be the NIC. I'm assuming these machines are fairly new, so what speed is the connection (I see Dell have started to ship with onboard 1 gig NIC's). They should be auto sensing for network speed, but you may be better off manually setting the card just to ensure it matches the current network speed, which I would guess to be either 10 or 100 mbit.Mr. M. Agent Smith Posted June 30, 2004 Report Share Posted June 30, 2004 It should be found somewhere in the advanced properties for tcp/ip for the relevant connection. If you call up the properties for your network connection, then select the advanced option and then the protocol properties you should be able to find it.Sorry if that is a bit vague doug, but I don't use XP, so that is from memory.Mr. M. GaRFIELD Posted July 5, 2004 Report Share Posted July 5, 2004 Ever thought about upgradeint to Win2003 Server network?Windows XP is known to have problems connecting to older DC-systems and even MS recomends (ofcourse) that u upgrade asap to W2003 servers. MS has also redesigned the hole DC setup, to make it more "stable" and easier to use. We have heard it before, but i have been useing w2003 now for a while and i will deffenatly recommend an upgrade (this ofcourse depends on cost and what you have from before of OS's on your network). W2003 works best win XP pro, and normaly ok with W2000I will also state that MS does not support NT4 systems anymore (atleast for normal users). That means NO upgrades or Bugfixes.
