To start folding @ home within a Linux enviroment you will have to download the following file:

FAH4Console-Linux.exe

[yes .exe]

You can download this file by clicking here.

Now in Linux open a Terminal/Konsole.

Let's Begin...

1.jpg

Login as root by typing: su and press Enter.

Now enter the root password and press Enter.

2.jpg

Now we have to change directory to where you downloaded the FAH4Console-Linux.exe file.

I downloaded this file to /home/chris/folding

This is because when you come run this file, additional files will be created, so to contain these files i created the folding directory.

So change to the directory where this file is located by typing: cd /path/to/file and then press Enter.

3.jpg

Now we have to make sure we can run the file that we downloaded so type: chmod +x FAH4Console-Linux.exe and press Enter.

4.jpg

Now it's time to run this file by typing: ./FAH4Console-Linux.exe and press Enter.

5.jpg

Now type your User Name and the Windows Forum Folding Team Number: 37446

With a Y or an N answer the three questions.

When you are ready to connect to ther server press C.

6.jpg

Allow it all to download.

7.jpg

Now just sit back and wait.

8.jpg

Keep waiting...

9.jpg

Eventually it will complete and you would have now completed your first Work Unit in Linux.

Press C to start again...

Now time for another...

CONSOLE CLIENT CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

If you want to configure the client then click Here for information on how to do this.

Note: Please ignore the above times, in the images. It didn't actually take that long. A few problems with the capturing the images mean't i had to do it a few times.

And since you make it look so simple powerless, I'm going to try and keep the faith (in mepis hopefully)

Now folding in mepis.

However, your second instruction stating chmod etc is incorrect , glad you posted the pics, I just followed the pictures.

How to check it's running (where's taskmanager )

How to ?

Well i restarted.

How to ?

Right click on desktop, create new, file, link to application.

Link to Application will be highligted, this is not where you enter the path to folding, this is the name of the shortcut.

Click on, Advanced.

Next to command: enter the path to folding *.exe

At the bottom click Advanced and check to run in terminal and not to exit.

BUT! hmmm it's not asking for user name and team number.

User anon.. I know of one at pcpitstopĀ  folding team, is that also mark2???

I don't want to be anon tho,:(

Trying to configure F@H to run on my Mepis system BUT checking the logs in the folding folder

A potential conflict was detected:

Process 1059 is currently running and may also be a client with Mach. ID 1.

Program will now exit. Upon restart, this check will not be done --

you may wish to check that no client is currently running in

/home/mark2 before restarting.

checking a F@H log in home/mark2 I find

[03:36:04] - Ask before connecting: No

[03:36:04] - User name: Anonymous (Team 0)

[03:36:04] - User ID not found locally

[03:36:04] + Requesting User ID from server

[03:36:04] - Machine ID: 1

[03:36:04]

appears to have already launched :(

don't know nothing about folding under linux :(

what I do know is that you don't get the credits for your folding...

Your username and teamname should change to mark2 and teamnumber 37447

Maybe powerless knows how to set it up??

Have tried trashing both the directories and rebooting, but as soon as i try to run F@H again I get the error message and the anon user has already launched. Have tried deleting too, but still the same

Maybe we need Bruce's input here

deleted all F@H directories , rebooted, reinstalled F@H to my home folder rather than a separate "folding" folder, the client.cfg file now reads correctly, now need to figure how to run it automatically on start up. I think it now needs to be configured as a service

But that pump up cpu usage to 100% or are you just leaving it Folding?

:o :o not a good idea then

Have to remember to launch F@H when I start then.

Seems to be working properly with my user name and team no. now though

:)
