i have cable internet and i have a router. i was told that bit torrent is running slow (asside from the fact that the speed depends on who your downloading from) becasue i need to folward the ports it uses. I found the port folwrding page on my router and put in the numbers i was told to. there doesnt seem to be a differnece and if i go back to my router's folwarding page everything is blank. it has a fe spaces and check boxes i want sure what to put in. they are:

protocall TCP - should i check this box?

protocall UDP - should i check this box?

xxx.xxx.x.x - it lets me change the 0 at the end. when i told it the ports to foward, i put in my computers ip address.

then there is a space and it says "customized applications" it is blank, should i oput in anythnig there?

the router is a linksys

try downloading a file from the internet, a regular file from a large host. If your download speed is maxed out, then you internet connection is fine, and it's either a setting in the program, or your just not connected to enough people.

I use Azureus to download .torrent files, and because I'm on dial-up, the pause/resume feature is key.
