Monitor won't come on

Recommended Posts

I unplugged my PC in order to add RAM, change some stuff around, and when I put everything back together again, the monitor is refusing to burn, saying to me instead:

INFORMATION: Monitor is in Power Save Mode - Activate using PC :o

I can't see a thing on the screen. How would I "activate using PC?"

Special Glasses Required?

I tried "listening" while I restarted, so as to figure out when to hit the DEL key to enter SetUp, but then I realized that THAT won't help me, since the monitor isn't burning.

Thanks very much to all who responded:

Opened the case, checked video card, looked for bent pins in the plug, unplugged the power, and then got the same result when I started everything back.

How do I check / reset the BIOS ??? (remember - no screen during boot)

Poor monitor - just died for no apparent reason - bored, I guess................

Know anyone that has a PC?

Take the screen to their house (or have them bring theirs to you - if they're brave...)

- with the VGA cable, and try it there. At least you can eliminate the bad screen/cable possibility.

If your screen works there, the good news is you don't need a new screen! The bad news is that you remember what you did, put everythin back to it's original, working configuration, and make sure the screen then works.

-Do you have an old video card you can try?

After jiggling cables, trying the machine on a known good monitor, removing & replacing the video card and generally trying all of the advice above, I tried this:

I put everything back the way it was originally, and adjusted my facial expression. Upon reboot, the monitor burned brightly.

Maybe it was the full moon. Who knows? Who knew? :D

:P

Sounds like the RAM you was installing was not compatible?

I had that happen to my old Machine, had all sorts of problems till I tried different RAM, then Bingo, fixed!

It was so weird, the RAM was double sided, when I installed single sided RAM, it worked like a dream!

:whistling: :D
