Maxtor One Touch Ext USB Hard Drive

I have just purchased a Maxtor One Touch 120 GB USB2 external hard drive to use as a back-up medium.

It really is superb and so user friendly for someone like me who is a competent computer user but knows almost nothing about the innards of computers or the complexity of backing up systems. After an easy guided set up and full back up of the system (which was 15 GB and took 1.5 hours) the drive now backs up all files that have changed since the last back-up at a set time each day (which only takes a few minutes). I can also press the button on the front of the drive to manually back-up any changes at any time.

I have not tried it yet - but the restore function looks very straightforward too.

I am surprised at how fast it is compared with writing to my second internal hard drive.

I did a test writing a 3 GB folder comprising 5800 files from my C: drive to my D: drive (second internal) which took just under 6 minutes.

Writing the same file to my USB2 external drive took only 90 seconds longer.

I really can't imagine how it could be made more simple for a simple chap like myself who is simply impressed.
