Hi folks. I’ve had a similar experience to Trackrat’s friend.

I installed SP2 yesterday afternoon from the MS CD. The installation went without any problems and all my apps seemed to be working OK, then I tried to connect with MSN Messenger and that’s when the probs started.

Firstly it wouldn’t let me sign in “because I wasn’t connected to the internet” although I was.

I tried “retry” with the same result. I tried msn.com but it the web page wasn’t available. Anyway after fiddling about with it all last evening and most of today I uninstalled SP2, but that didn’t cure the internet troubles. I still could not connect to messenger and lots of other sites, so, I decided to do a system restore only to find it had wiped out all my system restore points.

Fortunately I’d read the articles by Powerless and Co and taken a back up of my windows partition about a week ago using Acronis, and that got me out of the mire.
