Chris Posted September 17, 2004 Report Share Posted September 17, 2004 Major Windows XP SP2 bug reveals documents worldwide PC WELT in Germany said it has discovered a major bug in Windows XP Service Pack 2 which will crack open your PC like a song thrush breaks a snail shell.The magazine said that under certain circumstances, the installation of SP2 for Windows XP "invites any Internet user to have a look around your PC".It says that services including file and printer sharing data become visible despite the firewall being activated.The only pre-condition is that sharing for an internal network only has to be enabled and a connection made to the Internet using ISDN or dial up.But DSL users may also be affected. PC Welt was able to open private documents on the net on PCs using XP SP2. The full article is here. AlanHo Posted September 18, 2004 Report Share Posted September 18, 2004 What I find puzzling about such stories is the fact that XP2 had a massive beta testing with a huge number of testers for a very long time.That being the case - why have all these smart killjoys waited until now to poke holes in the programme.I sometimes feel that there are people out their with their own selfish agenda. They, as you say, put the program/application out to BETA testers who are supposed to report back on these loopholes.It seems that many of the testers spend anything up to a year to find these problems, don't report them until the release then throw egg in the face of Microsoft, at the same time attempt to show their own importance and skill in finding a "Bug" within a few days of the release.! :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
