moon
C'mon, I've got to go to work. Where do you want it sent ?
nellie2
I just had a thought, it might be easier for mrfusion if you could stick it in a zip file and attach it to a post... like you would a picture. He could then just download it from the board when he is ready for it.
moon
game for anything, me. I hope my yoga pics ain't zipped up in there. :D
moon
Geez, looks like it's no good. I've never heard of certificates, let alone validated any. Sorry chums. :D
spikeychris
You don't have to validate any certs moon. mrfusion just has to import the file.
mrfusion
Hi all, Thanks for taking the time to help me. I have the certificate file now, butI cannot import it. When I run the "mmc" program as instructed from the microsoft site, I get this error:MMC cannot create a node manager. Make sure the file Mmcndmgr.dll is registered. nellie2
Hmmm, I found this, hope it helps to sort out the dll problem click here, I'm begining to think that your problems stem from a few corrupted system files, so if we can get sfc to work then we could be halfway home!! :)
mrfusion
Great! Once again I'll give that a try as soon as I can. :D
mrfusion
I followed the info on the link you pointed me to and typed in regsvr32 C:\winnt\system32\mmcndmgr.dllAfter the first error, I got a new copy of the dll file from a friendwith a working w2k machine. After copying over his file I then get this error when I ran the command again:LoadLibrary("C:\winnt\system32\mmcndmgr.dll")failed - The specific module could not be found.I triple checked that the file is in fact there and is named correctly and of a decent size (1,128,960 bytes)
nellie2
mrfusion... my thoughts are that perhaps it is time to attempt a repair of your o/s using the recovery console. If you do this I think you will need to re-install your service packs.. but at least all your data will be intact.Could you hang on for an opinion from one of our W2K people as it has been a while since I used W2K! Scarecrow Man
It's always worth a try. These may help you a bit.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;229716http://networking.earthweb.com/netsysm/article.php/623601http://windows.about.com/library/weekly/aa032600c.htm
mrfusion
Ok, I was able to install the recovery console, but I can't get started with it until I get home from work tonight.Oooo I HATE cliffhangers! :D
nellie2
Before you do the repair, instead of typing in regsvr32 C:\winnt\system32\mmcndmgr.dlltryregsvr32 %windir%\system32\mmcndmgr.dllIf that doesn't work then go for the repair, I've been reliably informed that the proceedure is the same as xp so you might find Powerless's guide useful see hereWhen doing a repair all your programs and docs should be intact... but it is always a good idea to back up anything important just in case! Let us know how you get on! ;)
mrfusion
:dontgetit: Well, I created some boot floppies and ran the win2Krepair. Once it finished that and rebooted I now get a bluescreen of death after windows tries to start (when the little tick marks move across the bottom of the screen). The BOD says:Inaccessible boot device.I can not longer get into my machine. And I can't get to a command prompt to run chkdsk /f There doesn't appear to be a smiley icon of someone tearing their hair out and crying........ Scarecrow Man
It's not over yet. Don't do anything drastic. Can you boot into the recovery console again, and when at the command prompt, type 'fixboot' and 'fixmbr' without the ''
mrfusion
But I can't boot into the recovery console.....When I try to do that the machine reboots.
mrfusion
I also can't get the machine to boot off the CD-Rom driveso I will have to boot off a floppy in order to get to any softof command line. The win2k disks I have boot right into install or repair mode. mrfusion
Ok, hang on. I got it to boot off the cd drive. I'm trying to getto a command line to run the fixboot stuff you suggested.
mrfusion
Well, I still can't seem to find a way to get a command prompt where I can access the C drive.Like I said when I try to use the recovery console, it starts up, askswhich system I want to boot (there's only one c:\winnt) and when I select that the machine reboots. mrfusion
Ok, I was finally able to get a command line, I got to the C: driveand I followed your advice:...at the command prompt, type 'fixboot' and 'fixmbr' without the '' I ran both of them and then rebooted the machine and I still get the inaccessible_boot_device when I try and start windows.
