A lot of the malware comes from places other than America - the Far East being notable but there are plenty of others. These people will just c**k a snook at any laws the USA brings into force and carry on as before.It should also be remembered that the perpetrators of all this a very often at, or on, the wrong side of legality anyway so some toothless legislation is not going to be much of an obstacle. Spyware is a complicated problem tho and i dont think any one solution would be a magic fix to all our woes. A step in the right direction from the USA? All of Windows operating systems have more holes than a leaky colander and each patch that is produced seems to create another batch of leaks.Best thing of all, though, would be for the people creating all of this stuff to direct their passions to more constructive things :)P.S. - Can you imagine any governments cooperating with each other - especially the ones likely to be involved in this? I agrea i very much doubt we can hope for a world wide effort to halt the tide of malware and find/punish those acountable for it. The best defence against it is to try and educate the users themselves. How many of the millions upon millions of internet users understand the importance of windows updates? off NOT opening email attachments? and of reguralry updating virus definitions. As it stands internet users have to look after themselves, but if any government wants to try and bring those pirates responsible to justice within there own borders then more power to them in my book. VERY valid point there. I am continually being asked to look at machines that have the most vile infections of this, that and the other. I am going to one on Monday (80 mile round trip) which appears to never have been updated since it was built. It does have AVG but that's not been updated either.
