A modem router can be got a a good price, just need to shop around...Sometimes you can buy just the router, with the modem plugging in via Netowrk or USB, just depends on the model. Chris Posted October 12, 2004 Report Share Posted October 12, 2004 You know I can't say i've seen routers where you can plug modems into them.But a router with a built in moden there is plenty - i think.I have a NETGEAR DG834G info about 120 smackers when I got it....but I think there about 80 Kangaroos now.It is very easy to setup. Input your ISP account and password and it connects. It will configure everyting itself. You can do it all manually if you want.Oh and it also has 4 LAN ports so you can go wired if you want.Ummm as for the Laptop you'll need a USB or PCMCIA card. Have had two of them (one replaced) used with Netgears own USB adaptors on 3 different PCs and have had endless problems. The connection drops so much it can hardly be used. Apprently Peter Thomas (FE at PCA) has had a similar experience. Putting SP2 on a couple of the client PCs does seem to have made things a bit better but I'm sure there are better options out there!
