-pops- Posted October 14, 2004 Report Share Posted October 14, 2004 My view is that you should let Windows and your firewall look after your ports.Remember that ports are there for a purpose and messing about opening and closing them without a thorough knowledge about what they do can result in you owning a pile of junk rather than a computer.I'm pretty sure someone will come along and suggest where you can read up on the subject, but be careful :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
expertec Posted October 14, 2004 Report Share Posted October 14, 2004 If you want to see which ones are open, for a security test, use Shields Up! from grc.comIt is best to leave ports alone unless you need to open them for a specific purpose, your router software should have instructions if you do need to. Scarecrow Man Posted October 14, 2004 Report Share Posted October 14, 2004 If you want to block certain ports, get a firewall. There are plenty of free ones.
