homecomputeraid Posted October 17, 2004 Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 Kirbster,For the SP2 problem, (and that problem and this one could very well be related), you can download the full SP2 Executable from Microsoft here.I hate to go here, maybe someone's already asked (this post is looong), but what would it take for you to reinstall Windows on the dodgy machine? Do you have a lot of personal data and applications on there? Do you have access to the Operating System and all drivers? Do you have all of the Application CD's?There comes a point where the time and effort expended trying to define and fix a problem greatly exceeds the time and effort required for a rebuild. Agent Smith Posted October 17, 2004 Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 I would reccomend that you get the full SP2 download and patch your machines so they are all at the same level.I will try and find a download link for you to get the full patch.When installed, it will change the update site to V5, and I am pretty sure this will resolve your other problem, and fairly sure it will resolve this problem too. Kirbster Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 Right, I've now re-installed Windows and started from scratch!!!!I've now got a PC with nothing on it, but at least my network works now!!! Now just have to put everything back on, downlaod and install all the updates and then put it back to SP2!!! At least I copied that over before I re-formatted the hard drive.A big thanks to Mr.M and Ted (Homecomputeraid!)Hopefully, you won't hear from me on this thread again, presuming SP2 doesn't change anything! Please make sure you protect it with Windows Updates, Antivirus Software, Spyware Removal and Protection, and a Firewall. If you choose another free firewall, make sure you disable the XP Firewall.There's good software in the Security Issues and Updates, and Spyware Removal Forums. I'll provide you with a link to my site too. Wherever possible, I list free software I've tested myself. Some of it has a low fee.
