Acronis TrueImage 8 problem

Recommended Posts

Friend of mine who is running XP Pro + SP2 is having a hard job to create a valid image of his C drive using Acronis Drive Image 8.

He's done a reformat/clean install of XP Pro + added SP2 and then only installed the latest AVG + Ad-Aware + SpyBot + Spyware Blaster + True Image 8 + Diskeeper 9 Pro.

He now wants to create an initial backup image to put on his other H/D.

However when he tries, it does produce an image, but when he then uses True Image to check it - it always seems to report the .tib file as being corrupted ?????

I can't help him as I've not gone to SP2 yet and my True Image is only v6 and hasn't got this "check" option in it.

He's done an AVG scan and found nothing and it hasn't been connected to the internet yet since the install !

Possibilities I can think of are something running (possibly an XP service ?) which somehow unlocks the locked drive while its taking the image ??? or - as Diskeeper is set to "set and forget" - its waking up and spoiling the image taking ? He shouldn't need to disable AVG and the XP Firewall as well should he ????

Grateful for any flashes of inspiration

All ideas will be investigated :D

He's running this from within windows by the way !

Thanks Nel :D

I found this there !

Re: What does Check Image do and what causes a corrupt image?

Well... software incompatibility can occur when you use programs that require direct access to your hard drives. For instance, it can be an antivirus or a firewall.

Also we have received messages about "Image archive is corrupted" error when the customer has Diskeeper application installed. When he turned off this application the created image has been checked as healthy. We have tried to reproduce this situation in our Testing Lab but to no effect.

Thank you.

Oh dear! In their defense, they can hardly test it against all the software that is available on the net.... otherwise we would never get any new apps.. because it would take too long to test against everything.

These problems crop up we learn and we make it better next time!

Instruct him to close down all applications...you know the score and tell him to repeat the imaging.

Now can Acronis fully function in safe mode? If it can, give it whirl :teehee:

May seem drastic... but if he has two RAM sticks tell him to whip one out and see it it works. Swap 'em about. ref: they mentioned memory.
