smorg Posted October 19, 2004 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 hi allI am unable to run any microsoft products such as explorer IE outlook express. Affects 2pcs both have XP SP2. AVG and spybot adaware. These are 2 pcs from seperate clients. One of the pcs has been running with sp2 and avg very nicely for 3 weeks while the other has just been installed with sp2 and avg just recently and had abundant spyware malware picked up by spybot and adaware. It is very difficult to do anything as explorer doesnt work so i have to use run command and am having fun relearing my dos commands ie tyring to copy virus definitions back in the correct subdirecties. Have rebooted in safe mode and tried last known configuration no luck though i havnt as yet turned off system restore. I have uninstalled avg off both systems as both were producing the core driver error. So now i am trying to install antivir though it will be lots of fun tring to get the virus database into the right subdirctory without explorer. On one pc the problem occurred immediately after a windows update. So it could a conflict with xpsp2 avg and the recent update or maybe its a virus spyware thingy.Thanks smorg Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted October 19, 2004 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 This may appear defeatist and not what you want to read but, if any machine of mine were to be in a state as yours seems to be, I would opt for a fresh install of Windows.This may be because I'm of an age and inclination that wants a working system rather than patching up a broken one but I've found in situations like you seem to be in, every time you think you've corrected one problem, either that creates another or a completely separate one is revealed, have a think about it :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However i am the only repairer in this very small town (pop 1200 inc dogs) i need to learn what the is going on here as the 2 pcs exhibit almost identical symptons and has turned up in the same week. i did most of the cleaning and patchng for both pcs so my reputation is on the line. smorg Posted October 19, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 I have tried to uninstall through run however when i type in the$NtServicePackUninstall$ folder the run thingo flicks off and all is lost b4 i can complete. control panel explorer and system restore all nonfunctional all very tricky. djohn Posted October 19, 2004 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 I agree with pops in saying that sometimes its better and quicker to format and install again if all the data can be saved first. One thing to try though and you made a point of it in your first post.System Restore. This will need to be turned off before doing any scans and cleaning of the system otherwise any nasties will be hidden in there and keep coming back. smorg Posted October 25, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 25, 2004 HI all thanks for your helpIT turns out that the that there is a conflict between hotfix kb834707 and XPsp2 BETA version there have been a few posts to other forums about exactly the same symptons.
