djohn Posted November 23, 2004 Report Share Posted November 23, 2004 Just installed and run ccleaner and it has cleaned all the rubbish as it says on the tin. Just having one problem and that is the notification area of XP Pro. [sys tray].When you click on the taskbar/properties/customise. it will show a list of "Current" Items and "Past" Items. Now cc says it will remove the list of past Items if I tick the appropriate box from CC windows pane/tray notification cache. The help file says that for it to work you must close down explorer.exc from Task manager then manually restart it again. copy of instructions below.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In Windows XP the System Tray (the set of icons next to the clock in the bottom-right corner) orders and hides items automatically for you. Whilst this is useful, it records a list of every program that has been run from the tray. This option clears the list of previous programs and removes any custom display/hide options. (Warning: This won't have any affect until you manually restart the explorer process from the Task Manager.) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I opened task manager from Ctrl/alt/delete, closed down explorer.exe then clicked on the applications tab/new task and typed it back in again and hit the OK button. this restarted explorer but the "Past" Items is still showing on the list. Anyone know were I'm going wrong? :([Edit]Well, not sure what I did [Except I opened Task manager from the taskbar right click option] after trying the above procedure again it worked! Now showing just the present Icons in use, all past Items on the drop down menu list have gone.
