Chris
[boot loader]timeout=60default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptInC:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdconsI spaced out the above and as you can see there is no Windows(default) as an identifier.I think what has happeneded is the Default is in fact Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition is the defualt O/S that you boot into.To remove the entry you would have to rebuild the menu: http://www.windowsforum.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=10374Or change the default timeout to 3 Secodns [mine is set to that] and you won't even notice the screen flash up [well you will see but it will go away] . When you do want to enter the recovery console, just use the arrow keys to select it.
blacksonic
I tried what you said about loading the windows(default) and this is exactly what it said:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:<Windows root>\system32\hal.dllPlease re-install a copy of the above file.If it helps at all, i had installed windows XP Pro (what showed up b4 windows(default)) on D:\\ which is just a partition off of C:\\ and when i got rid of XP pro i just formatted the D drive. Thanks, and i had changed it to 60 because i normally walk away from my computer as soon as i turn it on, ever since this problem started occuring, i got angry at the screen showing up saying the above error message. so i just changed it. blacksonic
Also i forgot to mention this, though it doesnt pertain to the above problem(I think). But most things that Auto-update, like windows update, and symantec live update, among other things, cant connect. mmorpg's, the windows update on the windows website, adware 6 update, spybot search & destroy update, and msn messenger, the list of things that cant connect, just goes on and on. AIM can still connect, but i cant run housecall internet virus scan wont work either. Thanks again.
-pops-
The easiest thing to do would be to do a new install of Windows, removing all the old versions in the process.
