Shiskine Posted October 23, 2004 Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 Never used to do this before, but my mouse cursor has stopped recognising the right edge of my display. Top and left, the cursor always remains in view, whilst at the bottom, it "disappears" albeit you can just see the top of the cursor. I seem to recall the right margin behaved the same as the bottom, but of late, the mouse will travel (in a virtual sense) as far right as I send it ... at least 2 feet anyway :unsure: .As I use low acceleration on my mouse, if I bump the mouse to the right, the cursor will disappear and I literally have to drag it back from its virtual position off screen. Initially when the problem began, I thought the mouse had packed in, but eventually realised the cursor was simply out of sight.Does anyone have any ideas what may have caused this? The problem occurred immediately after I had been switching between my primary and secondary displays (see spec below).Although clearly a minor problem only, it is annoying as I can no longer "throw" the pointer to the top right of the screen when trying to close an application as it now heads off into the wild blue yonder!Pentium 4 2.53Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 120Gb Hard Drive, Windows XP Pro v2002 (SP2), ATi Radeon 9500 128Mb Graphics card, Norton AV 2005, Logitech MX700 USB cordless mouse (which behaves normally in all other respects).Shiskine Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Shiskine Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 Should perhaps have included details of my monitor and display settings ...Have a Sony SDM-HS74PB DVI X-Black TFT display which has both DVI and analogue inputs. Both are hooked up to the appropriate outputs on the Radeon with the DVI set as the primary display. Screen res of 1152 x 864 and colour quality set at Highest (32 bit). Have you downloaded anything you weren't sure about (email or something like that)?1. Are you able to do a system restore to a time before this started to happen?2. Have a search around your system for anything called Crazy Mouse or a similar name.3. Do you have an ordinary wired mouse you could test your system with? Unfortunately it looks as if I might have tossed my PS2 corded mouse so no test just now but will hunt one down and see if it makes a difference. Finally, performed system restore to the evening before I fiddled with my primary and secondary display settings and this appears to have improved things, although the cursor still disappears further off screen than I remember it doing.Intuitively, I'd say it looks like the mouse isn't registering my screen size, ie. that it thinks the display extends further than it does.Thinking about it now, I have one small application (updater for my car's GPS device) that only opens in a small 6" x 4" window and this opened (and still opens) with barely an inch of the window visible on the right side of the screen such that I have to drag it back into view. Shiskine Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 Just the usual OSD stuff (although brightness and colour cannot be adjusted when in DVI mode). When I first connected the monitor, it was using both the DVI and analogue inputs with DVI set as primary. Some time later, I disconnected the analogue input thinking it was superfluous. Everything fine at that point.Not hugely satisfied with the TV picture quality on my WinTV PCI card, I wondered if it might perform better through an analogue input and so reconnected the analogue cable, leaving the DVI connection in place. As I recall, I went to Windows display settings (rather than use the input mode button that I hadn't noticed was on my monitor!) and made analogue the primary display. I started getting glitches at this point in that if I subsequently changed mode on the monitor (without touching the display settings) the secondary mode consisted of just my desktop wallpaper, no icons and no mouse points at all. Have checked everything in display settings and device manager and all is reported as working properly.This mouse cursor thing seems to be the only legacy of my fiddling.I really should remember the adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ...Shiskine Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mark2 Posted October 24, 2004 Report Share Posted October 24, 2004 do you have access to a monitor you substitute temporarily.I've just tried to recreate the problem with my laptop display settings, My normal resolution 1024x768, going up a notch to 1154x864 throws my desktop icons out beyond the visible borders of the screen and I lose my taskbar from the bottom of the screen, have you tried changing your resolution down 1 notch ? Bear in mind, that I have used my 1154x864 resolution without problems for some time. The problem did not become evident as a result of adopting this screen size.
