Smiffy99 Posted October 23, 2004 Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 Hi all, Apologies for absence and I know I need your help now....Right, the problem: Norton Systemworks 2005 and in particular Norton Ghost v.9I have set the ghost backup schedule to make incremental backups on a "every other day" basis and these are added to the base backup. In theroy i should be able to forget any other backups and in the event of disaster go back to an image of no more than a day old.Right, in comes the keyboard. I have the Logitech DiNovo Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and media pad. (Nice) The thing is, whenever Ghost does a backup I have to reconnect the device (enter the passkey). I only have to do this with the keyboard and not the media pad or mouse - they work fine!I dont know if this is anything to do with the fact that this new version of Ghost creates a virtual partition to create the image (you back up from within windows rather than having to re-boot into DOS) and then it loses it's setting or what?The second problem is that Ghost SHOULD limit itself to three backup images and when it creates the forth it deletes the first (You can set this to whatever you like). I came back the other day to find that it had filled up a 200Gb drive with god knows how many back up images. (I have yet to install my data so we are simply talking about programs on C drive)Any ideas? Anyone else had problems with the new Systemworks or Ghost in particular?Comments welcome and many thanks. -pops- Posted October 23, 2004 Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 No help to you, Smiffy but you may remember long ago from my PCA days that nothing even remotely connected with Norton or Symantec is allowed to get within 100 yards of my machines.My suggestion would be to chuck it all out and get something less pernickety and more reliable. Smiffy99 Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 23, 2004 Hi Powerless, Yes, fully updated and Xp installed onto brand spanking new disk with SP2 - absolutely every update available is on.I should also mention (yes Pops, I know, i know) I also have the Creative Audigy ZS soundcard which had a known issue with Norton 2004 products. Funny thing is though, you would have thought that Symantec, knowing of this problem, would have sorted it before releasing a new version. I mean, its not as though creative products are exactly rare is it?I have managed to get everything working properly apart from the above. When i did install I did get a few error messages from Symantec that, helpfully, said "We are aware of this problem but do not have a fix for it as we have been unable to recreate it! If someone nicked your PC they would just replace the keyboard but if it was a someone trying to have a sneaky at your computer whilst in your home, it may save you a few.The problem though might not be with Symantec it might be Logitechs fault?The backup limit [nice feature] well, I don't know.I can't find anything on your problems :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
