andsome
I have Norton System Works set for automatic live update, and this has operated several times in the last week, as the idiot virus writers must have been busy. This morning the little lantern bottom right of the screen started to flash, and went on for some time. I thought that this must be an unusually large download. When it was still flashing about ten minutes later I decided to double click it. A window told me that updates were available and did I want to download them. It was indeed a larger than usual download, and required a reboot and second visit for a further download. My configuration is still set for automatic update. I have never had this happen before, the program just gets on and does what it wants to without my intervention. No problems as far as I am concerned, but I just wondered if anyone else had this happen.

Nem1
About norton, I think its the worsed virusscan ever made... I had 2004, wanted to uninstall it, and my pc crashed, my whole windows f***ed up, then i got 2005 and i didnt even uninstall it and the errors came, so to save time, i formated my whole drive, I recommend using Mcafee 2005, I like it because you dont have to activate it, its easy to use, protects your computer good and ofcourse, because i downloaded it :D

Randy_Bell
One mans meat is another mans poison. I have used Norton ever since my son gave me his old computer several years ago. This is the fourth computer that i have used it on.I agree, another vote for Norton, I have used it on three home PCs for several years now, no problems. Just because one person has issues with one software doesn't mean all persons will have issues with that same software. :flowers:
Jayno
I hope you happy Norton users are right because I have both their 2005 System Works and 2005 Personal Firewall on order.I was using NAV 2001 (very very happily) with annual renewal fees for virus updates, but they informed me this year that they are no longer supporting it.JThe Norton 650 cc Dominator was quite nice too .... for those who remember ;)
andsome
Make sure that you completely uninstall the old versions before installing the new. Then use RegScrub XP to get rid of the bits and pieces.

andsome
I uninstalled an older version on this computer before putting in a newer one with No problems at all. Anyone can have a bit of misfortune with almost any program on the market. Computers are as funny as women when they want to be.
Wilt
Has it ever downloaded an update that needed a reboot automaticly before? Or is every download manual now?Don't have norton, but I have a feeling that downloads that require a reboot are manual downloads.
andsome
Has it ever downloaded an update that needed a reboot automaticly before? Or is every download manual now?Don't have norton, but I have a feeling that downloads that require a reboot are manual downloads.Mine is configured for auto update, and these updates never ask for a re-boot. I manually visit 'Update' every week, and if there are any system updates, i.e. not virus definitions, then these often ask for a re-boot. However the option is always there to re-boot later. So if you want, you can always just carry on until next time you close down, and re-start the next day.
