Smiffy99 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Share Posted November 22, 2004 Hi all, I must admit to having a peek at PCA (I didnt post honest) and saw a thread title that is exactly the same problem as I am having:Norton Ghost v.9This has the ability to do "incremental" backups rather than full copies of drives. The problem is it really is a space eater.I have now deleted the ghost folder (some 130gb of 200) in an attempt to free some space. However, Ghost (or Windows) will not relinquish it. By that I mean the folder is gone but the space has not returned. i am still showing only the free space that I had while the file was there.Short of reformatting the drive anyone got any ideas?Many thanks... Smiffy99 Posted November 26, 2004 Author Report Share Posted November 26, 2004 Thanks for the replies and I apologise for not making myself clearer. What I meant to say was that I have deleted the Ghost folder that contained the back ups, not the actual program (Systemworks 2005 pro). The program is installed on my C drive and the backup on G. The only files on it are the Ghost back up files created by the incremental backup feature. (So if C goes down i can restore from G).The Drive is 200 GB and Ghost used 130 GB in 3 backups. It is these particular files I have deleted but windows will not let me have the 130 GB back and continues to show it as used.To overcome this I have now reformatted the G drive and started again but have not turned on incremental backups (yet). If so, I cant see how you would ever get rid of the files or reclaim the space as there is not an option to "decompress" as it were and when you restore you do of course leave the files intact.....the plot thickens!
