I have downloadedfrom the NET demo versions of Acronis Disc Director Suite 9.0 and Acronis True Image 8.0. I was trying to install them on my laptop. I must have done sth wrong during the installation because nothing works now:when I boot the laptop a window displaying Acronis message: 'Processing, please waite' appear. And it hangs forever (I was waiting yesterday two hours and NOTHING!). Windows does not start at all! And it is not possible to do anything on my C-drive using a bootable Windows disk. Pressing of F8-key during booting also does not help. I was phoning to Acronis, they told sth about downloading once againDisk Director and starting it without selecting OS-Selector (but how I can start the program when my laptop boots immediatelly to this stupid page 'please waite' and does not go into Windows). Acronis people told also sth about Media Builder... Well, it was too fast for me to understand all the instruction by phone. Yeah, this is the problem, I've downloaded Acronis in order to make in the future backups and recovery disk. How I can do it? Should I download the software *.exe and save it on a bootable disk (I don't have floppy on my laptop). How to do it? With a standard burning software? Can I burn every *.exe program on a bootable disk? Sorry for stupid quastions, I am just starting with Windows, up to now I have been an LINUX-softwareuser. Thanks a lot for your help! If you haven't got as far as making the backup, the boot disk won't be a lot of use to you, unfortunately.As far as I see, things aren't looking good here unless you have a backup from some other source.Have you any idea what went wrong during the download?As a pointer in Acronis' favour, I use it and have used it since PowerQuest disappeared under Symantec's umbrella. Acronis TI has got me out of difficulties several times now.One thing about these demo programs (And this applies to PowerQuest demo's as well) is that they are probably non-working. I was watching TV and just clicking 'yes' to every question which appeared during the installation. I was even not cerafully reading the questions. I thought it was a demo, so I should not worry too much. I just wanted to see how it looks, how it works. I wanted to buy an original version (I was considering Acronis and 7tools software for back-up and disk partitioning for an multi-operating-system environment). Scarecrow Man Posted December 3, 2004 Report Share Posted December 3, 2004 Any program that alters your partitions must be taken VERY seriously.I have no experience with Arconis products so I am afraid I cannot help you any more.One thing you could try, is boot from the Windows XP CD, and go into the recovery console.Follow the prompts untill you are at a command line.type "fixboot" and "fixmbr" without quotes. But I have no access to the hard-drive! I can't do anything with my drive, I can't copy data from it, I can only see content of the drive. The problem is that I don't have Windows installation CD, my laptop was sold with Windows recovery CD (once I use this CD my drive will be formatted and I will loose all data). I hope to borrow tomorrow Windows installation CD . What I should do then, to run 'installation with repair option', right? And my data will not be lost, right?
