homecomputeraid
You're absolutely right about a compatible Firewall/Router and Network Card. Here's a link to a Netgear 802.11g Wireless Firewall/Router that will do the trick. For the other computer, I'm not sure whether it's a laptop, or a desktop. If it's a laptop, you'll need a PC Card 802.11g Wireless NIC. For a Desktop, you'll need a PCI Card 802.11g Wireless NIC. You can install all of that, and see what happens. I do recommend setting some security on them by changing the SSID on all equipment and setting up a WEP Key on them. I can help with that when you're ready.Sincerely,
pwp
thanks homecomputeraidi was looking at this and perhaps a card from the same page.http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/n...?quicklinx=2CS8will this do the job as it will only be used infrequently,so i don't want to spenda lot. it would mainly be used when the grandchildren come to stay.cheers
homecomputeraid
The Wireless Gateway/Router looks ok, but I didn't see something I usually look for, a built in Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall. If you go with that model, please make sure you have some decent Firewall Software. If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2, you have an ok firewall by default. If not, you'll want to download a free package. I list two on my web site, http://www.homecomputeraid.com/firewalls.htmlPlease post as things progress if you need help configuring it! :)Sincerely,

homecomputeraid
Thanks Trackrat! :)I'm always working on it. I don't think it looks too good, and I want to implement Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). I also have quite a bit of additional information to add. I'll post after my update, maybe this weekend.Sincerely,
Vasichko
I would also make an exception within the settings of the Windows Firewall to allow access from the wireless side... Ive found that doing this seems to cure the problems with SP2 and wireless.
