Guest simbey1982
Ok to start out i am an expert computer administrator....so please do not post easy answers like "do a repair" or "try ipconfig /renew" or something cuz...well you will seeHere is my setup......Actiontec Wirless DSL Modem Router....right now it is hooked directly to my desktop via 100Mbps ethernet. I have the router set to DHCP blah blah. Well all of a sudden acouple of days ago i log on, and no internet. It assigns the bogus address 169.blah.blah. Now if i manually configure it, i can browse my laptop connected via wireless.. but no internet whatsoever. I have tried the following, cables, router settings, reinstalling NIC's (tried 2), Uninstalling some suspect programs, uninstall SP2, Repair windows, a supposed regfix and patchAlso i have tried every setting i can think of....anyone know of any knowledge bases or fixes for this issue? expertec
Have you tried re-booting or resetting the router? That worked when I had this problem before.

scuzzman
try: -powercycled ALL equipment in this fashion: modem->router->computer(s)then:if you require wireless networking -right-click your wireless netowrk, select "scan for available wireless networks..." select and enter your keydidnt work? - un/reinstall the drivers for your wireless/wired nic(s) - check for IRQ conflicts - replace nic(s) or possibly router - can you get a valid ip plugged directly into modem? if so - router's hosed - access its config adn see if there's an option to dis/enable the DHCP clientDont follow these in this specific order: you're a network admin, follow them properly

homecomputeraid
The 169.blah.blah.blah address is an autoconfiguration address. It means your PC isn't receiving its DHCP address from the router as it should. If you browse to the Router's IP and look at the configuration (using a manually assigned IP address on your PC), do you see that DHCP is enabled on the Router? Do you see a place on the Router to reset to default configuration? Usually a pin-hole you put a paper clip into on home routers. Remember, if you resort to manually assigning an IP, you'll also have to assign your DNS Servers and Default Gateway, at a minimum, to be able to browse the Internet. You can find the DNS Servers listed on your router, usually, if your Router's outside IP Address is assigned via DHCP from your Service Provider.Hope this helps. :)

homecomputeraid
How is DNS resolution being handled on your network? Do you have a local DNS Server? This really sounds like a DNS resolution issue. Can you ping an Internet site by IP Address on the problem computer? Try pinging Cisco at 198.133.219.25. If that works, try pinging www.cisco.com. If you can ping by IP, but not by name, check DNS stuff more thoroughly. Try routeprint at the command prompt and see what routes are showing.
