don't ask
I wouldn't know an ethernet connection if I met one -pops- I only know this is the master machine of a small network of 3 (only 2 of which connected).I'll ask hubby - but I don't want to throw any more money at the computer. scuzzman
I'm glad it is working but I have a few things to add:1) if this starts again, request a modem with ethernet connectivity2) install an ethernet NIC in your computer and hook up via ethernet - if you need help doing so we'll gladly walk you through it.3) Ethernet is 10x more reliable than usb, and offers far better transfer rates (up to 100mbps, 1000 mbps in some circumstances, wehreas usb only offers max 12mbps) now clearly your're not going to get a broadband conenction that fast, but these tx/rx rates should indicate to you how much more advanced ethernet is than usb.4) this is also aside the fact that Win98 was made BEFORE usb, and hence the backward-compatibility isnt all that great
