NTLDR Missing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A friend of a friend has told me via text message that he is having problems with his computer after installing Norton Anti Virus.

At the moment Windows XP will not boot as it is saying 'NTLDR is missing' on bootup.

He only has a restore disk for his computer, so i will lend him a copy of my Windows XP disc so he can boot to the recovery console. At least this way he will have a chance of restoring the missing files without loosing any data.

I wont be carrying out the work, so i need to find a beginner friendly guide that i can print out so he can work from. Does anyone know where i can find a guide that i can print out that will show him step by step what to do, and what to restore?

Cheers,

Craig.

There are many possibilities why that message can occur. When it happened to me some year or so ago, it was that boot.ini contained incorrect information (pointing to the wrong partition).

Other possibilities: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...kd_tro_bohs.asp

And of course http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22NT...G=Google+Search
