andsome
I never log on, my computer just starts up and goes to my Desktop. Today however it went to the log on screen, and I had to click my name. I tried a restart with the same effect. I had a look in System Restore and saw a restore point for 'Software distribution service', dated yesterday. The only thing I did yesterday was to download and install a non critical update, 'Microsoft .Net Framework Version 1.1'. I bypassed that restore point and went to one the day before. Everything is now back to normal. Could it have been the installation of Microsoft.Net Framework Version 1.1 which could have caused this anomaly? I have had another look at Windows Update, and the Net framework update is showing again as available.

Redhat
Before, you had one account so no login needed. Now you have an invisible account created by .NET so it presents login screen.Take a look at chris' link :)
andsome
Many thanks folks. Since everything is now OK and as I like it since I did the system restore, I won't bother with this so called upgrade, I've managed perfectly well without it before. Thanks again. scuzzman
Thats fine - the .NET frameworks are mostly for developers of VB/VBS code anyhow,

scuzzman
I wouldn't even know how to begin to do anything like that. It's actually quite fun - it's exhilerating to punch in a bunch of commands and have a computer do exactly what you told it to do, how you told it to do it, and etc.If you want programming tut's (although, they don't mention VB, something I may hvae to look into) check out my links. andsome
I must remember NOT to download that one again. I can't understand why they would produce an update that makes you log on unless you go through a regstry altering routine to stop this happening. It doesn't make sense. If you want to log on, you can set the computer up like that.
