markblack77 Posted December 26, 2004 Report Share Posted December 26, 2004 Hi,this my first post on this forum, so excuse me if i sound a little stupid.my PC went a bit wrong to say the least. i couldn't get safe mode to start so i decided to put in my tiny system disk to start again. this came up with an error number 958and now when i start my PC i get 'BOOT DISK FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'any advice, i would be very thankful.thanks for lookingmark Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Chris Posted December 26, 2004 Report Share Posted December 26, 2004 I'm not too familiar with TINY systems but the message you are seeing is usually associated with the BIOS being incorrectly set. Or a cable has become lose within the system.What you want is the computer to boot from the Hard disk Drive.Usually when you insall an operating system you boot from the CD.Did you got into the BIOS.Do you have a floppy disk in the drive? - Remove if you do. markblack77 Posted December 26, 2004 Author Report Share Posted December 26, 2004 Hi,all i know is it is a tiny machine, purchased about 3 years ago, and it's been good as gold.i tried to play a downloaded media file and it said it couldn't find the file, i did a restart as windows media player was acting up and then it was a no go after that.the safe mode window came up but i couldn't get it to start in safe mode, so i thought i'd try to take it back to factory settings with the disk which came with it and that is where is am up to.there is nothing on the PC i need, do you think i will have to buy a copy of windows XP and do a re-install?thanks againmark Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

scuzzman Posted December 27, 2004 Report Share Posted December 27, 2004 BIOS is an acronym for Basic Input Output System - a good explanation would be the operating system that runs off your CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor)It's the most basic operating system, holding the instructions to start Windows/Linux/Any other OS you have installed, and is the VERY first thing loaded into RAM.Now, what's happening is the BIOS is looking for an operating system to load, but is not finding one.Open up your computers case and firstly, blow out all the dust using air duster.
