Zae@CyberTLC Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 I recently bought a new hard drive and set everything up, correctly I'm sure.Now when I go to Install windows, everything goes find...it installs all the files and everything...but when it goes to reboot, it goes right back into the file instilation log...When all of the files are already installed.At first, I thought I had made a mistake and didn't install them correctly, so when I go to install the file again, it says "Operating system already installed". Is there a way to skip this and go to setting up the windows options? Or should I re-install all the files again and see if it does the same thing over again?I'm sorry, I know I sound confusing so just ask me about what doesn't make sense in that paragraph and I'll see if I can explain it better.I'm not good at this at all. :ninja: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nellie2 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 Are you trying to install Windows XP from the CD? When you first do this you are prompted to 'Press any key to boot from the CD' when you do this windows will load all the set up files etc that you need, it will then reboot your system. Because you have the windows disk in the drive you will be prompted to 'press any key to boot from the cd' again, but you don't want to boot from the cd this time so ignore that and wait for the system to boot properly into the installation process and away you go! ;) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It never asks me if I want to boot from CD, it just goes right into Windows Setup and starts loading files again.Or is there some strange setting that makes it boot from CD anyways when it shouldn't? nellie2 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 Probably the easiest thing I can do is point you in the direction of some excellent intallation guides see here if you look down to the bottom of the page you will see Windows XP Home installation guide parts 1 through to 5. Perhaps by checking those guides out you may find out where you are going wrong! As far as the ram goes... no you don't get a new hardware message with ram but you can check that your system has recognised it by checking system information. scuzzman Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 Access your bios by:Turn on your computerThere will be text somewhere that says "Press To Enter Setup" can/will probably be one, or a combination of:DelInsEscF1F2[*]Press that Key[*]Look for Boot Sequence, Boot Order, or similar[*]If you can't find thatLook for a CMOS setup or similar, and it should be in there[*]In there should be instructions on changing the order, just make your CD-ROM first. Spader Posted January 6, 2005 Report Share Posted January 6, 2005 You may want to make sure to insert your RAM modules into the correct slots. Depending on your hardware, especially on the motherboard, the system may not accept different configurations than the ones described in the motherboard manual.With my A8V Deluxe, I have to use either a single module and put it in the third slot, or one pair of modules in the first and third slot or two pair of modules, in the first and third and second and fourth slots, respectively. When used in pairs, the RAM modules must be of the same type (size and frequency), otherwise what you described will happen (that is, nothing) when booting the computer.
