micken Posted January 2, 2005 Report Share Posted January 2, 2005 My home server decided to play up just before the new year. Could not recognise main HD/boot partition. Recovered this using a combination of Norton Ghost image and Genie backups (thank God for belts and braces!).Worked OK until reboot when it now does not pick up k'board & mouse. Originally using cordless/desktop combo, have now replaced with wired combo. Boots fully in both situations without informing me of problems. Can do safe mode and recoverable desktop view but no input from k'board possible, no pointer & no recognition of mouse.Have reset CMOS etc. but no joy, no fun either since I'm back at work on Tuesday.Any ideas anyone? Just to convince myself that I was not going completely insane I started up the PC I'd robbed the k'board & mouse from. It spotted them as missing immediately. I think I've got a m'board that's not wanting to see too much of the New Year.Just out of interest I've tried controlling it via VNC from both a desktop and laptop on my network. Absolutely no problems at all. After using my VNC connection to remove the drivers for my cordless/optical combo I found that both k'board and mouse were both recognised and working. I've rebooted a few times now and it seems stable again.I'm not too certain about the actual cause but the issue does seem to be resolved at the moment. :D Just for info scuzzman, in the earlier stages when there was no pointer, mouse or k'board control the numlock light remained permanently lit. woodchip Posted January 3, 2005 Report Share Posted January 3, 2005 I just added a reply hear and it does not show!!! try again your motherboard as gone open on the printed side of the board, you have no 5 volts Supply at the keyboard. I had this problem with a Motherboard and installed a jumper wire from the PSU socket on the motherboard to keyboard this got it working.
