scuzzman
Unless you're really good with laptops I would suggest taking this to a professional then. Most likely, the CD drive is dead.
keelo1027
If it is dead, does it cost alot to fix it?
keelo1027
any other suggestions? I tried to use a cd cleaner but it won't even read that either : /
-pops-
CD drives are far from being robust, so much so that the ones for desk top machines are considered to be almost disposable items. Laptops are a little different in that, whilst being just as, or more, delicate, they are more difficult to replace.I would follow the advice already given and get a professional to have a look at/replace it. Laptops are definitely not for do it yourself repairs..
keelo1027
I was thinking about getting an external drive but am not sure if that is the best idea if the problem isnt fixable.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Check the Device Manager if there is any error showing.Try to re-install the device driver, or see if there a newer driver available.Try uninstalling the driver, and see if Windows will detect the device. keelo1027
I checked the device manager and it said nothing was wrong and I tried to troubleshoot but it said nothing was wrong.
scuzzman
Remove it from device manager, then let Windows reassign the driver.
keelo1027
I did but how do I reassign it?
scuzzman
Windows will do it automatically - if it's in device manager, Windows took care of it.If it's not, run the Add hardware wizard from Control Panel, you may need the CD's that came with the computer, or you can download the drivers. If it is listed in device manager, then the drivers were reinstalled, and you've, unfortunately, done all you can :(.
keelo1027
yeah I reinstalled it and it says its working properly so I guess I give up now and will look into either getting an external drive or fixing it,whatevers cheaper... thanks for the help.
