prctr
Just built an Athlon XP 2800 on an EPoX board, and when attempting to load Win 2K, it starts to load all the files, then the monitor cycles again, starting the reboot.I set it to boot from the CD, but it isn't getting all the way through loading the OS before the thing restarts. The monitor clicks off, and the machine reboots on its own.HELPI reset the CMOS (?) jumpers - originally I was getting a series of long beeps, but since resetting jumpers, that has stopped. Obviously, can't get much further until I get an OS installed.Anyone had this problem? Also, am not using a boot disk - do you suppose that may be the problem? Hard drive isn't partitioned, but it DID format when I first attempted to load the OS - I am using NTFS.
-pops-
I don't know anything about W2K but with other Windows systems there are places in the installation where the system reboots as part of the installation process. You say that the reboots on its own. What happens after that, does it start again from the beginning or carry on? The installation should, I think, continue almost to completion without any input from you. So, resist any temptation to do anything if you get messages like "Boot from CD".Your only input during installation should be to tell it names, passwords, language and time zones. All that I've written above may not help but it will keep this thread active until someone with more detailed knowledge comes along :)
Scarecrow Man
You cant boot from the CD either? If you dont have anything important on there, format the drive.Use a windows 98 boot disk http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and type format C: /sSee if it's bootable then. prctr
Oddly enough, I changed the ribbon cable, and it booted correctly. (It was starting over each time before)Thanks for all the replies. How weird....................
