ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted February 7, 2005 Report Share Posted February 7, 2005 I had an item in the msconfig Startup section that no longer exists, so I had it unchecked, and set the General section to Selective startup. I didn't want to reboot with that selective setting anymore, and I wanted to get rid of that item.I know that uninstall should have taken care of this, but that was some software that didn't provide any way to uninstall. So I searched the regisitry and found various places - including services - where that thing appeared. I deleted each and all of them, and everything seems fine now.However, I wonder if there are more appropriate ways to remove such items. scuzzman Posted February 7, 2005 Report Share Posted February 7, 2005 A very good piece of software called RegScrubXP is available, free, to scan and determine/fix problems with the Windows reg. I haven't used any reg cleaners for many years, as I made some very bad experiences with Microsoft's original Regcleaner.But I noticed that RegScrubXP hasn't been updated for more than 2 years, which means it is pretty stable. So I gave it a shot (after a full registry backup). It removed 77 items, and I don't seem to have any problems.Now back to work... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
