M$ Longhorn 4015 ScreenShots

Recommended Posts

Hi all ;) ,

Just found this Interesting Site.

It has pictures of the new OS from Micro$oft codenamed 'Longhorn'.

Now that we've all had the opportunity to play with Windows 2003 for a few weeks now, anyone ready for a real desktop operating system? Well its not that good yet but its obvious that codename Longhorn is progressing in leaps and bounds. With the 2003 team all free and coming back from vacation soon, we can expect much more regular glimpses at Microsoft's next-gen desktop. Build 4015, although only 7 builds away from our last glimpse, notice the build date. They are obviously not up to the full build speed that we can expect with betas.

Points of note:

(Build 4015.main.030328-1500) DX 9 (9.0.900)

WMP 9 (2991)

Windows Messenger 5

A curious kill button which kills and restarts Explorer, located on the sidebar.

Well, while waiting to play with it yourself, check out a couple of screen shots and stay tuned.

Just click the numbered links 1-12 for the images...

it looks very pretty......but........will it be much of an improvement on what is available at the mo??

Oh yes!

Reading other reviews on what is to come, just about everything you can think of under the bonnet will be changed.

But we will have to wait until the beta's role out for the public to use, maybe late next year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the amount of HD space it takes up, XP has taking 15gbs for it's own pleasure

Are you sure about that? My Windows XP takes around 4-5GB up...All the rest are files/ music/ pictures/ Received Files etc etc

Forget Hard drive space!

You will need everything else up to top spec as possible.

The desktop will be (reported) Direct 3D'eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed. Meaning a very nice graphics card will be needed, CPU, RAM blaaa....

My insiders (that just me with a hat and mac on, smokin' a pipe) tell me that 512MB + will be needed...

Were at that stage now where 512MB is common is systems, i suspect that that when Longhorn goes gold, the common RAM then will be 1GB and +.

So to some extent a whole new computer will be needed. As stated Longhorn is major revamp meaning not just a pretty Version of Windows 2000 that XP was.

Ok, for one thing 512mb is not normally refered to as the standard these days, maybe on brand new computers tho.

1gb of memory for longhorm IMO is a very out of sense figure. Microsoft want to reach the most amount of people they can, as it = more cash. They are not going to limit it to people with stupid and unecessary amounts of memory.

Just my opinion :)

Rome?

Looks like he/shes "kinda right"...

"This means Longhorn is going to have some heady requirements, at least compared with today's Windows. The bare minimum Longhorn system will have to be able to display at least 1024 x 768 with 32-bit color, and it must include a hardware accelerated 3D video card with at least 64 MB of RAM. But this is the base requirement: To take advantage of the fun eye candy Microsoft has planned, you'll need advanced video hardware with at least 128 MB of RAM. Kerry Hammil, a Program Manager with the Windows Client Platform, abstracted this somewhat by stating that the lower-end requirements were roughly analogous to the kind of system needed to run DirectX 7-level technologies. The upper-end requirements are more akin to DirectX 9, she said."
