Billw
Help, I have been trying to install a Belkin Wirless G PCI Network card on the kids computer and the damn thing won't recognize the card.I started with a Netgear card, returned it and got the Belkin. I reformatted the HD, reinstalled 98 and SE to no avail. I have removed every PCI card from the computer and tried the Wireless NIC in all the slots. 98SE still will not recognize the card.Anyone have an idea ?ThanksBillPIII 450128 mb ramwindows 98se

expertec
Did you install the card first or the software that came with it?
Billw
The software, then the card
scuzzman
When you install the card, does it become listed in Device Manager (even if it's as an unknown device)?
Billw
Hey Scuzzman,no it does not show up in device mgr. The add new hardware wizard does not start upon boot up either. I have cleared any and all conflicts with other cards in device mgr. I am geting ready to try a USB wireless NIC and see if that works. scuzzman
Try another NIC?Really, that's all I can think could be wrong... if the OS isn't even noticing it.You might try running Windows Update to get the latest OS drivers, then retry it. Billw
Hi, I have tried both the Netgear 54mbps and now the Belkin equivalent and neither is working. I am going to try updating 98SE as much as it will and see if it works. If it doesn't work then I am going to try USB. If that doesn't work then I am out of luck. ric
I had the same problem. Have you tried other devices in the pci slots? I think a controller or something was fried when I installed mine, nothing worked after that (modem, wireless card, ethernet card). I gave it up and purchased a usb wireless adapter instead, about the same cost and portable! Solution? Maybe, maybe not.
