SCANDISK at boot time

For the last two weeks whenever I boot up my PC I get an error message stating that Windows (XP) has detected an error on my disk and needs to repair it. The scandisk process runs, but does not report any issues with the disk.

When the boot process has completed I myself run scandisk and it still does not report any erors. If I close down the PC and reboot - then the error reporting comes back.

Why does XP say there are errors yet the scandisk process can not find any ?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

WELCOME to WF. I am not one of the forum experts, so may not be able to help. You did not say what operating system you use. When I ran 98SE on my old computer, it did this occasionally, and it was because it had shut down too quickly. Why not download Belarc Adviser and run it? It will show the state of the drive. If is DOES NOT show SMART, the hard drive could be on it's way out. At least this would be a start.

But it would be beneficial for us to know what filesystem you're using... Do you know if it's NTFS or FAT32?

Also, have you been experiencing any other troubles aside from this (crashes, slow speeds, etc)?
