trackrat
A friend at work has messed about with the cylinder settings of his 40gb hard drive and now it only shows as a 2gb hard drive.I do not know why he did this but he was doing a format for a clean install of Windows ME.Can anyone suggest how to get the cylinder settings back to default so it is recognised as a 40gb hard drive again.I have searched Google till I am blue in the face but can`t find an answer. scuzzman
It will be in the BIOS. The settings that it should be will be on a label on the hard-drive itself.
expertec
Shouldn't need to enter the info, the BIOS will be able to auto-detect ;)
trackrat
The bios is not auto detecting that is why i am asking about how to manually set them.

r4may
The settings shoud be on the Drive itself or look in the manual that came with the drive. Or go to the drive manufactures web site and look at the Drive info there.Maxitor Diamond Max is 1638 Cy 16 Hds 63 Sect for a 40 GBy Drive
